I finally managed to track down the photographer of the taxidermy championships of last year, with the help of some others, and was able to get a picture of my piece that won third place in the taxidermy championships, the swift chasing a fly.
The whole thing is mounted on a angular piece of glass, and on the glass are tiny stickers in the silhouettes of other swifts in the air. The swift itself is held to the glass with a fiberglass stick, and the same goes for the fly, which is attached with just a fiberglass strand.
Swifts in flight will always hold their heads horizontal to the ground below, and that little fact is also demonstrated in this piece.
This amazing photo was taken by Erik Bargeman and used with his permission.
~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!) NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy only and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.
This is awesome! I have always wondered how the taxidermy process goes. It's been something that has interested me since I was a small kid, when my dad told me he did some sort of course with it during college. Never have gotten the chance to do so, though... but I bet it's an enjoyable hobby, and you really get to know how animal anatomy works!

Swifts will always have a special place in my heart, they usually ariv soon after Beltaine, like they're ushering in summer. When my wife first saw them, and learned that they never set down, with the exception of their nests she wondered if in the past they'd angere some god, and a life of near-eternal flight was a punnishment. Now their arrival each summer will keep her memory in my heart.

This is awesome, i love taxidermy so much. I've got several ducks and soon to be some parrots in my collection. It just brilliant, you have captured the swift in it true nature.
Beautiful work as usual! Had I not known better, I would have believed this was a photo of this little guy when he was alive, flitting around the room after his next meal.
Wow, this came out amazing! It's more like looking at a picture of the actual bird, than of a taxidermy. Knowing how small both swifts and flies are, it's amazing that you got such accuracy in such a small subject.
Your works are an inspiration to attempt taxidermy myself. :>

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
