This was the very first bird falconer John Carmichael owned and flew by himself. This male red tailed hawk could not have ended up with a better falconer if you ask me.
Since the School of Falconry, run by John, supplies me with most of my raptor birds they have a contract with me. And during a specimens pick-up at the beginning of this year John said that he would like his first bird back.
I started thinking, and thought it would be amazing to see this bird 'fly' one more time. Though an old-timer, with worn tips and uneven feathers, it is ever the impressive creature to behold. The tips of the feather are lightly folded to add to the 'in-flight' feeling.
It will hang in the hall-way of the school of falconry, high above the doorway.
~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!) This red tailed hawk died a natural cause. NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy only and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.
Thank you for adding in this handsome boy's back story. It's really gives this mount such a warm vibe to think of him soaring forever even after he's gone. Wonderful job! And I hope you don't mind, but may I use your image as a reference? It's hard to find images of Red Tails with a clear view of their wings spread like this.
