Taxidermy - Kingfisher sitting by Illahie Taxidermy - Kingfisher sitting by Illahie
Another kingfisher for the school in Urk. This time the kingfisher is posed as if it would be looking over the lake.

~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!)
This Kingfisher died a natural cause. NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy only and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.

Illahie,

Beautiful work!  Do you work on commission?

Thanks,
Don

REALLY nice job. I'm amazed at how you are able to recreate these animals so beautifully.

Do you have an area where you do all of your taxidermy? Because of your stuff, it makes me wonder if I would ever want to get into something like this... I don't know though, hehehe...

Great work!

I have a small workshop where I do all my work. In case of bigger animals I usually rent a place to work, but more often then not people bringing in bigger animals have a room set up to work in anyway

One of your best birds. This one is truly magnificent! The color is amazing. I expect him to fly off at any moment.

It just seems so bizarre that I'm looking at something dead, yet alive. Is it strange and slightly disturbing to work with a cold, stiff animal's body? I've been wondering about that ever since I read a book about taxidermy.

The more often you work with things, the more you'll look at it as a sculpture almost.. something you have to mold into shape. Skinning is never a 'fun' part, but you get 'used' to it I guess. It becomes part of the whole process.

The thought of it still makes me shiver, though. D:
