This was a piece that had been running around in my head for quite some time, and with the taxidermy championships approaching I felt now was the time to realise it.

Courting bee-eaters; the male is offering the female a bumblebee. There's a whole system of non-flex wires going through the skulls. Basically each bird is connected from the feet of one specimen, through the body, through the skull, through the beaks, through the other skull and body to the feet. No movement, and no wires to be seen as it even goes through the bumblebee. Female seated in a relaxed pose with the male hovering in mid-flight, wings just on the return beat which is shown more clearly on his back.

The piece won second place with 87 points and considering the first place won with 91 points I can say I am extremely pleased with the result!

~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!)
NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy alone and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.

I am a permit holding and fully registered taxidermist

Stunning! :) The way you solved the "problem" of the hovering male is genius.
I'd really like to see it from other/closer angles. ;)

Incredible! Is any of your work in natural history museums? It all seems to belong in such a place!

I love this!! The twisting branch and reed base make it look more like a natural photo and the pair are so delicately poised and it just looks fantastic!!
