Taxidermy - Capercaillie2 by Illahie Taxidermy - Capercaillie2 by Illahie
Second Capercaillie 'trophy' mount featuring a black satin cord around the bird's base, showing the caper's calling display during the mating season. This caper came from the legal hunt in Norway and all the meat was used by the hunter involved.

~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!)
NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy alone and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.

I am a permit holding and fully registered taxidermist

A really unique mount. I've never seen one like this before, but what a great presentation!

Your positioning is always very realistic, and I had to click on this one, as it just stood out in stark contrast from the other submissions! I'd only say to put a mirror or light under him to catch highlighting around the bottom of the head. He does blend in a bit to the tailfeathers.

Black is a difficult neutral to work with, but the mount is quality as always! Your bird taxidermy is the best I've seen.

Not a bad idea about the mirror! I had a white reflector there for the purpose, but as you can see the black just sucks up all the light!

Reminds me of my own photography headaches. I tried the white before, but in the studio, we use tiny-to-large rectangular mirrors, depending on the area we're lighting, and it really acts great as a second flash on picky objects.

I like the tail mount, and hope I can do something similar with the turkey tail I have in my freezer, the head.. eh, I don't like the position, but I've never seen a caper, so I have no idea if that's a typical calling display position for them. It looks uncomfortable
