The squirrel I did for the bird breeder that keep the birds that die for me. Over the last year he has given me some amazing specimens that I wouldn't have been able to work on if it wasn't for him, one of which even won something on the championships in 2005. In return I do taxidermy work for him as well.
A while ago he bought a albino squirrel for his son to tame, but sadly it died. It had mange in it's longues, which the breeder must have known. The kid was in tears thinking it was his fault, but I called him about it and explained what had happened.
It's a shame it had to die this way, it's such a gorgeous sight!
Albino baby squirrel, clumsily climbing a branch on the ground
~To whom it may concern, (please read before accusing me of anything!)
This animal died a natural cause. NONE of the animals I work on are killed for the purpose of taxidermy only and most are found along side the road or come from bird/animal breeders in the area.
Excellent work once again, and that breeder ought to have something brought up against him/her if that was a disease they kenw about. That's aweful...poor boy.
Lovely mount of an unusual squirrel color morph. Out of curiousity, do you know what species this squirrel is? Since you're in Europe, I'd guess this fellow is probably a European Red Squirrel, but I'm most familiar with North American tree squirrels, so I really have no idea.
Unfortunately, I've heard from vets that albinos, especially of species kept in captivity, tend to become diseased more often than their regular conspecifics because of inbreeding that occurs in captive situations. It's too bad this little guy died so young.
Did you use real leaves of faux leaves on the base?
That must have known this was going on judging by the condition the animal was in (internally).. which was what bothered me the most. The bird breeder bought the squirrel with the best intensions and really got screwed for the money of it.
Wow, it's even more evil if they knew ahead of time. I hope he finds a different breeder and gets something really nice for his son. I also sent you a note for the Totem Card project. Did you get that? [link]
